TRIED AND TESTED: 3 DIFFERENT BROW FILLERS
Can we all agree that filling in your brows is actually an art? Too much product and you look like you’ve attacked your face with a Sharpie; too little and you can’t even notice the difference.
And then there’s the whole issue of the type of brow-filling product. Should you be using a pencil? A powder? A mousse? Your mascara? It’s enough to make any woman give up altogether.
But because your brows can do the most wondrous things to frame your face and give your features better definition, I really don’t want you to give up on them. Which is why I took it upon myself to try out three different kinds of brow fillers to show you what they can do and called on Brow Artist extraordinaire Jazz Pampling to shed some light on the best ways to use each of them.
THE BROW PENCIL
Why you’d use it:
According to Jazz, this is a great choice for people with gaps in their brows. “The pencil holds to the skin better, so it’ll help those areas where there is no hair for longer,” she says. You’re less likely to need to touch it up during the day, but if you do need to, it’s quite easy to do with a pencil.
Why you wouldn’t use it:
“The result can be too heavy for some people who may prefer a lighter finish,” says Jazz. But she does say that this could be down to your application technique (and maybe even shade choice).
I used:
THE BROW POWDER
Why you’d use it:
“Powder is great for anyone who wants a bit more fullness to the brow, but still wants to have a natural finish,” says Jazz. Powder leaves a softer finish, so often this is more appealing for people to work with. For those who like using a powder but would like a more defined finish (that isn’t too heavy), Jazz recommends applying the powder with a wet brush.
Why you wouldn’t use it:
According to Jazz, powder isn’t so great for filling in big gaps, only the smaller ones. It also won’t last as long in the day as a pencil might, which may make touching up a bit annoying – especially if you’re using a separate powder and brush instead of a little kit that has it all.
I used:
THE BROW MOUSSE
Why you’d use it:
Jazz says: “Mousse or mascara is a great way to set the brow hair in place for your day.” The pigments in the mousse can also help give your brow that extra definition (and make them look bolder) and can even cover any grey or white hairs in your brow. If this is the way you want to go with your brows, Jazz recommends combing your brow a few times after make-up application and before mousse application to remove any make-up residue from your brows.
Why you wouldn’t use it:
If you’re looking for a light finish, then a mousse may not be for you. Jazz says: “The coloured mousses/mascaras can sometimes add too much product to the brow, making the brow too prominent.”
